The Big Butterfly Challenge

The Big Butterfly Challenge

We hope some of you will want to take part in our Big Butterfly Challenges and raise money through sponsorship:

• Patrick Barkham Challenge to see all the butterflies that occur in our region in one year. There are 39 species but, to make it 40, you can either join our South Wales trip to see High Brown Fritillary (see opposite) or count the Scarlet Tiger moth as an ‘honorary butterfly’.
• Shropshire Five Hills Challenge (organised for us by Roger Littleover) to climb five of the county’s highest peaks – Brown Clee, Earls Hill, Hope Bowdler, Titterstone Clee and The Wrekin – during the summer. As well as being challenges in their own right, these hills support many butterfly and moth species. You can download sponsorship forms:

The registration fee for each challenge is £15 and, in return, you’ll receive a free West Midlands Butterfly Conservation T-shirt (state size and colour when you register). Various prizes are on offer for most sponsorship raised.
