WEST MIDLANDS BRANCH, BUTTERFLY CONSERVATION

Spring/Early Summer Meeting: Saturday 24 May 2003
Timed, we hope, for Pearl Bordered Fritillary sightings

We are continuing the policy of holding meetings in different parts of the Branch area. We have arranged this year’s “Spring Meeting” to be later than usual - more like early summer- so that we might have a chance of seeing some butterflies. This year the meeting will be held in Herefordshire a few miles from Hereford itself in the Village Hall at Dinedor. John Tilt, who is the Conservation Warden for Grafton Wood, will open with a talk about the conservation work at Grafton Wood. After this there will be a quiz. Tea, coffee and light refreshments wil be provided at nominal cost. At 2.00 pm there will be a guided walk around parts of Haugh Wood, which is very close, hopefully to see Pearl-bordered Fritillary and Wood White butterflies.

How to get there?:

In Hereford City, take the A49 southbound. Half a mile south of the river, turn left on to the B4399 to Fownhope. After 2.8 miles turn right to the village of Dinedor and you will find the village hall on the left hand side after about 700 yards. OS map 149, grid ref. SO 535366. Anybody wishing to come by train could probably be picked up from Hereford railway station. Please contact Andy Nicholls to make suitable arrangements.
